"Thermal Imaging for Residential Applications - Energy Efficiency, Moisture Problems, Quality Assurance"

Torsten Reimann

Torsten Reimann, Certified Energy Advisor, City Green Solutions/Natural Resources Canada

Should you have your home inspected with an infrared camera?  - If you suspect that your home may have hidden problems related to heat, air, or moisture then the answer is unequivocally Yes. Torsten, a certified thermal imaging professional working with City Green Solutions, will provide a presentation about thermal imaging for residential applications. Thermal imaging is a valuable building assessment tool that shows thermal patterns and can be used to assess problem areas such as: low levels of improperly installed, degraded, missing or wet insulation in roofs, walls, ceilings, floors, and foundations; hidden moisture problems; air leakage/heat loss around doors, windows, walls, floors and penetrations in the building envelope; leaking radiant floor heating and window performance. Thermal Imaging is a precise, non-invasive technology that diagnoses problems and detects opportunities for saving energy in buildings.

As well as discussing the different applications, he will lecture about the right conditions, the cost, and the qualifications needed to perform an infrared inspection.

Bio - While living in Germany, Torsten Reimann completed Bachelor degrees in both Environmental Science and Civil Engineering, as well as ongoing training in such areas as thermal imaging (Level II, ASNT), green building, clay construction, energy efficiency (Certified Energy Advisor, City Green Solutions/Natural Resources Canada) and rainwater catchment. He has traveled extensively and participated in numerous social justice projects such as building homes for orphans in Russia, protecting sea turtles in Greece, forest restoration in Germany and wolf conservation in Poland. He has worked in many aspects of the building industry, including: carpenter; civil engineer; renewable energy trainer at SolarCity in Leipzig; project manager for building schools in Germany using best practices for energy efficiency as well as his current work as a thermographer for residential and commercial applications.

Torsten is now based in Victoria with his family and is dedicated to providing valuable energy efficiency planning advice using advanced tools such as thermal imaging cameras to building owners in the Lower Mainland and Greater Victoria regions. Torsten is currently on the City Green Solutions (www.citygreen.ca) thermal imaging and technical team.
